Homelessness in Finland

Finland is the only country in Europe where the number of homeless people is on the decline. This is not a coincidence. Since the 1980’s the state, municipalities, NGOs and the volunteers have been working with determination to reduce homelessness.
Of particular importance is that in the 2000s, the state has launched and funded programmes aimed at reducing homelessness, which have in particular tackled the situation of the most vulnerable long-term homeless.

The story about Finland’s battle on homelessness was punlished in M le Monde in 2018.
